How To Make Your Site Load Faster

It is obvious that the sites which have lots of pictures and videos on the main page or on the page which is requested by a user to load, will load with difficulty. And if the computer that the user has is an old generation computer, than the loading time will increase even more. This is not what a Website owner wants from his site.

The goal is to have a site that is loaded pretty much in the same amount of time on every computer, regardless the processor and the generation of the computer. This is not possible, but at least the owner of the site can try to prevent that. How can he do that? In a simple and effective way. Learn how from this article.

I said before that the loading time is directly proportional with the number of the pictures and videos that are attached to a Web page, in other words, videos that have to be loaded from another sites, such as YouTube or from the server directly. This takes time to happen. To optimise the loading time, it is best to save the images that you have on your Web server using the .gif or the .jpg extension, because in this way, the images will be compressed, thus the site will be loaded more quickly. Regarding the videos, you can use videos that are short and usually do not exceed 10 minutes. Those who are longer will affect most likely the loading time of your site.

If you use Photoshop or other photo editors, you will notice that at the Save option you have a “Save for the Web” feature. Always use this feature, even if you use the .jpg extension of the file. You can use also programs that are online, such as WebResizer. You simply need to upload the photo that you want to optimise for the site and then select the desired number of pixels that you want the image to have. In this way, you can also establish the shape of the image. You can easily transform a picture that has 150×150 pixels into an image having 30×80. The aspect ratio should be kept however, because the images will look bad, even if they will be optimised.

No one wants to see blurred images, which are optimised. In fact, no one cares if the images are optimised, since they can’t see what the picture is all about. If you use WordPress, you will see that in the HTML option, where you write your post, you have the possibility of changing the aspect of the image, by writing the number of pixels, just like you do when you use an online photo editor. When you change the format of a picture in the HTML option of the text editor in the WordPress Dashboard, you have to do it in a single location. When you want to make a video to appear smaller or larger, you have to do this in two different locations, since this is a video and not a photograph.
